Bariatric Support Group

Dr. Hodges - Bariatric Support Group, Charoltte Hodges, MDDr. Hodges highly recommends patients attend monthly support group meetings. The meetings are led by Dr. Collins Hodges, both a licensed clinical psychologist and someone who has had bariatric surgery himself. The support groups are offered on the first Monday of every month from 6:30pm – 7:30pm CST via an online Zoom. The meetings are open to the public, and there is no charge to attend. Participants enjoy a unique opportunity to hear from others who are at different phases of the process, from those considering bariatric surgery to others who have had the surgery years ago. The support group offers a sense of community and safety in which participants can share their experiences and offer support to others. Among the benefits of attendance include assistance with the dietary and lifestyle changes that accompany bariatric surgery, strategies to correct problematic eating patterns, becoming more aware of one’s struggles with food addiction and patterns of emotional eating, ways to increase compliance with post-operative instructions, how to address the relationship between unhealthy personal relationships and unhealthy eating, and strategies to identify challenges and high-risk situations in an effort to promote alternative, pro-social behaviors and healthy food options.
