When you’ve struggled with weight loss and finally start to see progress, it’s exciting! You finally accomplished a goal that you have more than likely had for longer than you can remember. It’s easy to “fall in love” with this feeling now that you have done what you once thought was impossible.
However, just like any new love, there’s a honeymoon phase. Everything feels amazing and like you’ve never felt better until one day, your changed body starts feeling like a normal, boring part of life. Here’s what you can do when you’ve left your weight loss honeymoon phase.
Plan out your meals, workouts, water intake and supplements in a way that is realistic for you. When the weight loss honeymoon phase is over, you may find that the plan you were on before was unsustainable. And that’s OK. It may be time to reconfigure. Consider consulting a nutritionist to come up with a new plan that will help you stay consistent in reaching your weight loss goals.
When you set out on this weight loss journey, you set goals that you have now accomplished. Congratulations! Now that you have new goals, you may not immediately have the same motivation as you had when you were at your highest weight. Take those goals, and break them down. For each goal you have, make a list of steps it will take to get there. This will make your big goals easier to achieve.
Once you’ve left the honeymoon phase, the commitment you had to your weight loss and health goals may fade. Rather than trying to find that same motivation again, find out how you can recommit. Align your goals with what you want out of life. Now that you’ve lost the weight you set out to lose, what’s next? Do you want more endurance, strength, or to reach the next level of weight loss? Consider trying a non-scale victory like completing your first half marathon or being able to play with your children without feeling fatigued. What will it mean to you if you reach those goals? It could mean a longer, healthier life, or maybe more meaningful time with family or friends. Find what reignites your spark, and remember, it may not be the same thing as last time!
A lot has changed since you started your weight loss journey. You’re feeling better, looking better and living a different life. With all these major changes in your life, you may forget why you set out on this journey in the first place. Take a moment to reflect on where you started, how far you’ve come, and how far you can go from here. Get re-centered, and get back on that wagon so you can continue improving and become your best self!
