How to Create a Daily Wellness Routine That Works for You

When you find wellness advice online, you’ll notice that it seems like everyone needs the same things to live a happy, healthy life. You may have tried something a wellness influencer swore by, not felt any better, and wondered if you’ve done something wrong. Here are some tips for creating a wellness routine that’s tailored to you:

Assess Your Wellness Needs

Your wellness routine should be based on your individual needs. Consider your current state of physical, mental, emotional and social wellness. What areas need extra attention? What would help you get to a better state of wellness? If you don’t know where to start, look for online resources like a wellness wheel or a self-assessment quiz.

Set Realistic and Meaningful Goals

Take time to plot out short-term and long-term goals. Short-term goals can be things like “exercise three times a week” or “meditate daily,” with long-term goals like “lower my blood pressure.” If you need some guidance for creating personal goals, consider the SMART method (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound).

Design Your Ideal Daily Flow

Decide which activities you want to do, and build them out into a flexible daily schedule. Plan out what you will do in the morning, afternoon and evening. Consider your daily commitments and your current energy levels. For example, if you haven’t been to the gym in a while and are not a morning person, consider working out in the evening so you’re more likely to stick to it.

Keep your wellness schedule adaptable in case of busy days or times when you need to make adjustments in the moment. Also, remember that you don’t have to incorporate everything at once. Start with the easiest activity, and build your routine from there.

Monitor and Adjust

When you’re starting a new routine, using a planner or calendar can help you stay on track. Write down your goals and activities you want to do every day, and track your habits and progress. If you find that you’re getting bored or burnt out from your wellness routines, make adjustments. There’s no right or wrong way to improve your life’s balance and health.

There is no miracle cure that will make you feel better or help you reach your health goals overnight. As you make progress, celebrate it! From the small wins to the major milestones, take a moment to pat yourself on the back for all of your wellness achievements. You deserve it.
